Tsinghua University Institute of Low Carbon Economy was established in 2008. ILCE is a non-entity interdisciplinary research institution, administratively supported by the Low carbon Energy Laboratory of Tsinghua University.

As energy security and climate change increasingly threaten the sustainable economic and social development of all countries, developing low-carbon economy has become an urgent issue for all countries to consider. ILCE will make full use of the multidisciplinary advantages of Tsinghua University, actively organize and coordinate relevant research forces, and carry out systematic and in-depth research on low carbon economy, policies and strategies, so as to contribute to the sustainable economic and social development of China and the world.
