Short BIO:

Bin Hu is an Associate Professor at Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development at Tsinghua University, where he specializes in climate policy and governance, climate risk and environmental economics. He has published widely on the economics of environment, climate change and public policy, and his articles and commentaries also appeared in many newspapers and medias. His article was awarded the second-best paper by the Journal of Insurance Issues and the School of Insurance, Actuarial Science, and Risk Management at St. John's University, and included by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) as one of the guiding studies. He was also served as the executive deputy editor of the book Introduction to Global Climate Governance, a series of books on carbon peak and carbon neutrality published by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, with China Climate Special Envoy Zhenhua Xie serving as the editor-in-chief. Bin Hu has been invited to participate in second-track climate dialogues bilaterally and multilaterally, and made invited presentations around the world.

LONG BIO:

Personal Profile: Hu Bin holds a BA in International Economics from Institute of International Relations, and an MA and Ph.D in economics from University of Windsor and University of Guelph in Canada respectively. He was appointed Assistant Professor at the school of Public Policy and Public Finance at Central University of Finance and Economics in 2009, Associate Professor in 2016. In March 2021, he joined Tsinghua University as an associate professor. Since March 2023, he has served as the Director of Global Climate Governance Research at the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development at Tsinghua University.

Main Research Areas: His main research areas include climate policy and governance, climate adaptation and risk management, and environmental and resource economics. His papers on climate policy and governance have appeared in journals such as Financial and Economic Review,China International Studies, Environmental Science & Ecotechnology, World Environment. His research on climate adaptation and risk has been appeared in such outlets as Journal of Insurance Issues, Climatic Change, Social Indicators Research, Economics and Human Biology. His work in environmental economics has appeared in journals such as Environmental and Resource Economics, Journal of Cleaner Production, European Journal of Health Economics, et al. In 2015, his paper Climatic Variations and the Market Value of Insurance Firms was awarded the second-best paper by the Journal of Insurance Issues and the School of Insurance, Actuarial Science, and Risk Management at St. John's University in US. In 2023, he served as the executive deputy editor of the book Introduction to Global Climate Governance, a series of books on carbon peak and carbon neutrality published by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, with China Climate Special Envoy Zhenhua Xie serving as the editor-in-chief.

Projects and Consulting: He has led nearly 20 research and consulting projects, including projects commissioned by national social science funds of China, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Central Foreign Affairs Office, the National High-Level Think Tank, and Tsinghua University's independent research program, as well as consulting for the International Monetary Fund. His policy recommendations have been acknowledged and adopted by different levels of governments in China.

Conferences and Media: His articles and commentaries have appeared in many newspapers and medias, including Economic Daily, Xinhua Net, China Daily, and has been interviewed by CCTV News Channel, CCTV International Online, Xinhua News Agency, CGTN, YICAI, and China Environment News. His research on climate risks has been included by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) as one of the guiding studies for asset pricing under climate risk and invited to give a keynote speech at the "New York Insurance Management Forum." He has been invited multiple times to participate in second-track climate dialogues between China and the US, China and EU, China and Germany, and has delivered speeches at international academic conferences such as the annual meeting of the COP(UNFCCC), EAERE, CREEA, the RSAI World Congress, CEA,WEAI,et al. He serves as a reviewer for journals such as Environmental and Resource Economics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Energy and Resource Economics, and Advances in Climate Change Research, et al.
