Research interests and contributions

Dr. Ershun Du is mainly engaged in research on energy system low-carbon transition and electric power system operation and planning. The main academic contributions include: (1) In terms of the strategic path of energy transformation, a quantitative analysis tool combining "top-down" and "bottom-up" models have been established to identify China's carbon-neutral energy transition pathway that is technically feasible and cost-effective. This provides analytical tools for formulating energy transformation schedules, roadmaps, technical solutions, etc. (2) In terms of electric power system planning, a novel power system source-grid-load-storage collaborative optimization planning model toward carbon neutrality target is proposed. It supports carbon neutrality evolution planning with electricity as the core and considering the optimization and coordination of electricity-hydrogen-heating-gas networks. (3) In terms of power grid operation, a novel multi-timescale panoramic operation simulation technology co-driven by data and models has been proposed. This technology can realize the annual 8760 hours operation simulation for realistic large power grids considering multiple power sources, complex AC/DC power grids, and complex power grid security constraints. Dr. Ershun Du has published over 50 SCI papers, authorized more than 10 invention patents and software copyrights, with Google citing 3627 times, and an H-index of 33. He served as the editorial board member of the international SCI journal IET RPG, as well as the editorial board member and excellent reviewer expert of multiple domestic industry journals. The software developed as one of core members has been widely applied in more than ten provincial-level power grids in China.
